WILLIAM TAYLOR (labourer) died before July 1842. His son, John, was born on 3rd February 1819 in Wexcombe / Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire (Wexcombe is about 7 miles of Marlborough). William was possibly married to Elizabeth who lived near John in 1851 Census. She would have been born about 1781 in Tidworth and was a widow in 1851 living on parish relief Also living with her at the time were 2 possible siblings for John   James born about 1816, an agriculture labourer and Sarah born about 1825, both born in Great Bedwyn.
JOHN TAYLOR married ANN MASUM (born on 3rd September 1822 in Great Bedwyn) on 16th July 1842 in Great Bedwyn, John, resident in Wexcombe and Ann in East Grafton. Her father was Stephen Mason, born about 1796 in Great Bedwyn, a labourer and (later?) a maltster and mother, Elizabeth Shepherd, born about 1794/5 in Little Bedwyn.
    From 1851 Census they had
 William b. about 1842/3 ploughboy
 JAMES b. about 1842/4
 Charles b. about 184819
 Emma b. about 1850
All born in Wexcombe or Great Bedwyn
JAMES TAYLOR married HARRIET MAYHEW in July 1864 in Notting Hilt London. In 1869 James was a Railway Porter and lived in 20 Southam Street.     HARRY JOHN TAYLOR was born on 22nd July 1869 at Southam Street. (He should have been called Henry but a mistake was made and he was registered "Harry") In 1882 he started work at the W.H.Smith's Bookstall on Paddington Station where he gave the papers to Princess Beatrice, Queen Victoria's youngest daughter. In 1884 he was an assistant at Reading and later moved to Devizes where he was in charge. By 1901 he was Manager of the Bookstall in Paignton while living in a boarding house in Sands Road.
On 10th October 1903 he married LOUISA WALTERS of Hermosa, Torquay, a lodging house kept by her widowed father, Thomas at St. Mark's Church. Harry was then living at 100 Old Mill Lane, Cockington.  On 21st July 1905 their only child, WINIFRED LOUISE was born and that same year the Paignton W.H. Smith shop was opened with Harry as Manager. He was an active member and treasurer of the newly formed Paignton Operatic Society and also the Torquay Operatic Society when he moved to Torquay in 1910 to open the shop there.
They stayed there for 9 years when another move took the family to Eastbourne. Here Winnie continued with her musical training studying under a hard task master, Mr. Tass. In 1926 they moved to Bournemouth where Winnie played for Dancing Classes and in the evenings with a Trio or Quartet in many of the large Hotels there and often going as far as Salisbury. She spent her holidays in Torquay with her old school friend, Doris Atwell and was later bridesmaid where Doris married Chas. Slee. She also met up with Ken Holman, a family known to her parents when they lived there. Ken drove to and fro to Torquay and they became engaged in the early 1930's.
In November 1934 Harry retired and moved back to Paignton and on 23rd March 1935 Ken and Win were married in Paignton Parish Church and moved into Matlock Garage. Harry and Louisa moved to Preston just before the war and stayed there until 1954 when they bought Haytor View, next door to Matlock Garage. In August 1956 Louisa had a stroke and she and Harry then moved next door. Harry died in 1959 and Louisa in 1965 just seeing her great grandson, Stephen.
